Doctor Appt

Took Nathan to his follow up today. I thought it was Dr Crawford, but it was Dr Poudel. He's a little man on speed so you never get to say anything because he finishes all of your sentences. He said Nathan sounds better, definitely a plus. But he wanted to put him on Zyrtec indefinitely. I got the script but I don't really see how he can say a 7 month old needs an allergy medicine. I will wait until we see Dr Crawford to fill that one. I personally think it was a viral infection, hell it could have been RSV. How can he say it is allergies.

Nicholas, Terrina and I are going to Disneyland on Ice tomorrow night. It should be fun. It's been a while since I have gotten to spend time with either of them so I am looking forward to it. I have also been cooped up with a sick Nathan all week so a day out is exciting.

I tried to make roasted edamame today. I wanted them to be crunchier, it didn't really work out. They taste ok though.

Nathan was in the Newspaper!!!

Nathan was in the Chillicothe Gazette getting his Ashes yesterday! I'm so proud of him for smiling. What a ham, just like his brother!! I guess I should take this picture as a hint that I need to work harder on the wii fit etc, you can't even tell where my chin is! Bummer!

Nathan is feeling better today but still wheezing. I had to call off work again tomorrow so I can take him to the doctors. It's a good thing I called off today. He woke up with a temp this am of 102.8! It went down right after the tylenol so it's not too bad I guess. I am still curious why he has the fever. And he is out of his meds on Saturday with very little improvement so we will see what Dr Crawford has to say.

In the Beginning . . .

Obviously I have decided to start a blog. Way to get on the bus, right?! I had a bit of a revalation this week, while taking care of a sick baby. I used to be so organized and predictable and now, with two kids in tow, I am lucky to know what day of the week it is. I am lucky to pay my bills on time let alone keep up with all the thoughts in my head. I thought this would be the perfect way to organize my feelings.

Recently, I have received a magazine in the mail called Wonder Times. I'm not sure where it came from, maybe I subscribed to it online, who knows but I didn't pay for it. Anywho, I was reading it while Nicholas was at basketball practice tonight and there was a great article about how your friends change when you become a parent. As I thought about it I can totally see the truth in it. For a long time I thought that I was growing apart from some of my friends because we have changed as people, which may still be true. But I also think our relationships have changed because of kids. I am really happy that I am not the only one to have this problem. The article also brought up a little game of "what would I be doing if I didn't have kids" I highly doubt I would be very happy without my kids. Who knows where I would be or what I would be doing but I could not imagine my life with my precious children. As the article said, "how would it feel not to have someone to call you mommy?"

So today is Ash Wednesday. Over the past 10 years or so I have kind of travelled away from my Catholic roots. Recently I have been trying to get back to them. I enjoy going to Mass and knowing what is going to happen. I love sitting in the same spot every week with the same friendly, or not so friendly, faces around me. I love hearing the stories every week and listening to the progression of the Catholic year. I really was not that excited about my faith when I was younger, most of the things I did were more because I was supposed to but now I am glad I did. I am so happy that I can share my experience with Nicholas.

Nicholas had another episode today. I don't know how he was before school, but after he was horrible. He was a little wild when he got in the car but calmed down easily. We did homework before we got out of the parking lot. But then I made him a worksheet to practice his letters and name since he is a little behind the rest of the class on those I try to get practice a couple of days a week. Well, Nicholas did not like it, he did not want to practice. He threw a fit about how stupid he is and how he will never be able to write his name so he's not going to practice. I tried to calm him down by telling him he's not stupid, we just need to practice so he can get better and write words. I finally ended up sending him to his room to take a nap. Nathan was sleeping at that time too. After about a half hour I woke him up again. We talked and I thought the problem was resolved but he was still having a bad day. He kept talking about everything from what he wanted to watch on tv on sunday to what happened at school before he transferred to aircraft carriers to the peanut butter recall. I could even tell at basketball practice that his coach was frustrated with him. He went to bed well this evening though so maybe he was just tired. He agreed we need to talk to Trisha, his counselor, about today.

I had to call off work for tomorrow. Nathan is sick. Monday Sherry called Brad and said he was really hot and slept all day and wouldn't eat. When I picked him up I wasn't worried because he had had all of his bottles and she told me he only slept 2 hrs. That night he had a fever that I had to treat every 4 hrs to keep it down but it would spike right back up and he was all congested and coughing. I called the md in the am and there were no appointments but said to call back in an hour or so. When I called back they still didn't have anything but took my name and number and said they would get us in for the first appointment, they never called. I called and they found me an appointment at 4:15. At 6, we were leaving the pharmacy with scripts for antibiotic, steroid, and albuterol nebs. My baby has a viral illness and reactive airway disorder. I hope and pray this is not asthma.

One of my Lenten promises is to try to write on this every day or at least every other. I hope I make it.
