Kindergarten is coming to an end.

I cannot believe how fast my Nicholas is growing up. I feel so old:( He had his end of the year program at school tonight. I did not cry like I did at pre-k graduation but I was a little sad. He dressed up as a chef, and a very cute one at that. I am so glad we switched schools. Not really happy with the bill from it but we're working on that. Stupid ms Spetnagle did not work my son to his full potential but Mrs Fyffe is awesome! He does more than color, he can read and write, add and subtract! Here are some pics for ya'll.

Post Nascar "race"

We survived Charlotte! Terrina, Brad, Carolyn, Nicholas, and I ventured to Charlotte, NC last weekend. We left Friday, went shopping on Saturday afternoon (Brad loved it). We went to Saturday night's race where it was stopped for rain. Sunday we tailgated with Brad's work friend and his wife. Nicholas of course didn't listen very well that day and decided to step over the mini charcoal grill instead of around it so he has a small burn on the back of his leg but he will live. Sunday we made our way to our seats around 5PM. About 3 hrs later they decided to postpone the race. Monday we woke up early and packed up the car, went to breakfast and made our way to the track. The race was supposed to start at noon. We saw a little bit of a race then it started raining again of course. We saw the blower trucks do more laps than the race cars. After sitting in the "drizzle" for 4 hrs they finally called the race and we went home. Even though we didn't really get to see a race, I think we all had fun.

Recovery Day!

This was a busy weekend. Friday, Terrina, Nicholas and I went to the Reds game where the Reds one 6-4 over the Cardinals. If the Reds had not changed pitchers they would have easily won 6-1. We had Skyline - Yippee Yum! And Nicholas is now an official Red Head and met Mr Redsman so now we have free tickets to some games.

Saturday Brad and I went yard saling but didn't buy anything. Later we went to his parent's for Mother's Day Dinner a day early. We bought his mom a charm bracelet so now we can get her charms instead of candles for gifts. We left the kids there for the night and went out. This was one of the first nights I had been out out for a while. I had 3 captain and diet pepsi, 2 "pussy licker" shots, a long beach, a washington apple shot, and I kept putting my straw in Brad's beer for a "sip" Needless to say by the time I got home I was asleep (I actually fell asleep at the bar a couple of times) my wonderful husband tucked me in. The funniest part was when we pulled up to the house at 130 am our 86 y/o neighbor was just getting home and said "you two are out late!"

Sunday I got up at 1030 (remember no kids) without a hangover :) and went to pick up the kids and then went to lunch with my parents and Terrina. We went to Lake White Club and after we ate Terrina and dad wanted to see the "log cabin" that was advertised as being 45,000 dollars. After driving around the whole lake we found the trailer with "log" siding in a campground/trailer park, the ad didn't do it justice.

Today Brad and I went to Dayton to the BX. He bought me roses since his walmart rose bushes from last year never grew. When we dug them up they did not even have roots! My mom also got me 2 rose bushes for my birthday so my garden is almost as good as the one in Georgia!

Now it's time to go to bed so I can go to work tomorrow and probably be in Triage once again.

It's May!!!

May is my favorite month for many reasons:
1. Its my birthday!
2. Its generally warm and after surviving my first full winter in Ohio since Georgia, I deserve the warm weather
3. School is almost over - I guess this should only be good for people in school but I'm looking forward to Nicholas being home
4. Its mother's day - not as exciting this year since it's my birthday too

I picked up lots of hours this week, I will have 50 after my 12 tomorrow. I have am still under the assumption that people are stupid. I find this is especially true when I am in triage. Here are a few examples:

- A woman told me she had a tubal litigation (so far that is only funny to health care workers)
- I had a patient and her husband stare blankly at me when I asked a question, we were the only ones in the room during triage. Then I ask again and the husband says "oh were you talking to me" (wtf!!!)
- Since when is a tubal ligation or a hysterectomy not a part of your medical history?
"Do you have any history of medical problems or surgeries"
"No"
"Any chance you are pregnant"
"I had a tubal" (really thats not a surgery)
or
"When was your last period"
"I had a hysterectomy" (this happens more than it should)
-or you ask about history and they tell you today's symptoms "nausea/vomiting" (seriously)

Lastly I wanted to tell you I hate the swine flu!
I am so sick of asking people if they have travelled out of ohio recently and then we have to mask up everyone! I hope you all are having more fun in ga!

Forrest Gump

I was updating my info and I realized that you may not know my Gump situation. Nicholas loves the movie. For those of you who may have never seen it before it is not entirely appropriate for a 6 year old, or 4 year old since that is how old he was when he started watching it all the time. But he enjoys it and I can't exactly take it away now. Plus I don't think he understands the full concept of most of it.
Anyway, the funny part of the story is that I bought Nathan a Johnny Jump Up a few weeks ago. Nicholas asked "If this is Johnny, then what do they call the girl one?" I told him the girl one was called Jenny Jump Up. Being an avid Forrest fan, Nicholas has decided that we no longer have a Johnny Jump Up, we have a Forrest Jump Up.

A few months ago a friend of my sister's was giving away a bearded dragon. We already have one, the wonderful Thomas. Of course 1 is not enough for Brad so he took it. Of course there was a catch. The dragon is paralyzed from being fed mealworms and lack of nutrition. He scoots around but can only move one set of legs - I don't remember if its the front or back. We have named him Lt Dan in honor of the Forrest Gump character of course. I guess that's a sign Nicholas is growing up. We had all of our animals named after Thomas the Tank Characters and now we have moved on to Forrest Gump characters.

There is still a large debate in the house as to where Forrest sits in the square in Savannah. I know I am right but the boys will not listen. It makes since though, the cars are going the wrong way around the circle.

It's been a long time!

So, obviously I'm not as determined as Heather to blog every day. I feel like I let you all down, but at the same time, I don't think anything extremely exciting happened over the length of time. Well, maybe a little bit happened. Here is my top 10 list of things that happened since my last blog.

10. Once again I have no glasses. To make a very long story short, the glasses fell down a hole in the bathroom that goes into the wall and never comes out. Now I have to figure out how to get new ones. Luckily I still have the broken ones in pieces. :)

9. I seem to be getting stuck in triage more and more frequently recently. Do I have it tattoed on my forehead. Even when I'm not in triage, everyone thinks I am. I can only deal with those people so long. What makes it worse is that half of them are unemployed and on government insurance but they can afford to smoke 2 packs a day plus drink plus smoke pot, I just want to tell them they aren't sick and go smoke another. At least if they die we don't have to pay for them anymore (sorry that was cruel and some people are really sick unfortunately most are not)

8. Nathan has 6 teeth now. We are venturing into more solids - cereal, pasta, ground up meat, cheese, fries. He does really well with all of that stuff, plus his milk and baby food. He's still not very big, only 19lb today with all of his clothes on.

7. Nicholas got a $2000 video Jeopardy right. It was Monchu Pichu - I didn't know about any of that crap, but his globe taught him.

6. Brad had his reinlistment ceremony at OSU horseshoe. He only added 1 day to his contract (long story). But we got to go on the field and take pictures and stuff. I will post those one day. I even got a video of the ceremony.

5.Brad had his left shoulder surgery. It did not go as well for a couple of reasons. I thought maybe since he already had it once he would not need babied as much, I was wrong. He wanted a caring and compassionate nurse that I was not. Secondly the anesthesiologist put a nerve block in the wrong spot and messed up his collar bone. Who knows what happens next but he is doing well.

4. Nicholas's teacher emailed me last week

I just wanted to let you know that Nicholas made me smile yesterday.It was Katie's birthday and she had brought in cupcakes. Her mom hadput flower decorations on all of them and some of the boys were complaining. Nicholas spoke up and said" we can just give theflowers to our moms", which made Katie feel better. Nicholas is so bright and he has such an insight. He can see things outside the box and problem solve. I do appreciate him!

3. Nathan says Mama. I don't think there is a comparable sound to your child calling for you,

2. Nicholas got student of the month (or students of the month, there are 3) and he gets to go to lunch with the principal next week to a "local restaurant." I am so happy that we switched schools, I wonder what Mrs. Spetnagle would say about his progress.

1. Nathan learned to crawl! Last Friday 4/17/09, he crawled 2 little bitty "steps" and now he is going all over the place. If you leave the room he follows you. It's unimaginable how mobile he is getting. He crawls to a toy or object and then when he sits back he can't reach it anymore because he sat back, it's very funny.

Shasta's Life-Saving Event

My goal will not be met, I have decided. But I am consistent. I worked this weekend, Saturday was crazy busy. We saw 167 people (normal is just over 100) and our time was 131 min (goal is 120 and normal is near 200). We were all very excited. We always joke that our weekend is better but we were down 2 nurses and had nine squads in the first 2 hrs we were there! Sunday started off better, a slow pace. We were fully staffed but around 12 all hell broke loose. A dad brought in a 4 year old who looked to be dead. It was horrible, I have never seen anything like it. His eyes were sunken into his head, his arms and legs were mottled. His lips, fingertips, eyelids, even his penis were blue! We couldn't get an iv, couldn't draw blood. The dickhead md was there and kept kicking nursing staff out of the room so he could think! Finally they were able to get ivs and io lines started. The oncall peds md came and saw him and he was sent to Children's hospital. He was seen on Saturday, I don't remember seeing him, for diarrhea and sent home. The same dickhead saw him then too. We haven't heard anything but I am definitely still praying for him. About 20 min after he got there a little 2yo girl came back that was crying inconsolably. She couldn't move her head or arms. Her eyes were rolling into her head, Crazy! She came out of it about 2 hrs later, the peds md saw her too. My theory is that she had a seizure but neither md agreed. She was perfectly fine a few hrs later and went home! But it put us all behind. We had people everywhere in the hall. they even put a psych eval in the break room!!! I went to sleep Sunday night and Brad said I was out in 5 min, snoring and everything!
Friday I hung out with Leighanne. We picked Nicholas up from school and he had taken his stuffed dog, Shasta, for show and tell. The dog fell out of the car and Nicholas jumped out and grabbed him. He ran up to the porch and started CPR chest compressions. He was so cute. Then he hit his head when he leaned down to give breaths. He kept doing compressions like a trooper though!

Nathan is so close to crawling it's wonderful. I know he's going to do it when I'm at work. Bummer! Today he wore a onesie that Nicholas had worn when he was 2 weeks old, Nathan is 7 months old!! Such a little boy.
